| In the field experiments on sugarcane germplasm, we used the mature plants as materials and characterized five quality traits, brix, sucrose content, juice sucrose, juice purity and fiber on them. The analysis of variance showed that there were significant differences among clones for the five quality traits (P < 0.01) and the coefficient of variation ranged from 3.60% to 11.60%, with wide variation. The principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the five quality traits of sugarcane clones could be separated into two principal components and the cumulative contribution rate of the first and second principal components was 93.70% with the characteristic roots 3.700 and 0.990, respectively. The cluster analysis revealed that the 86 germplasm could be divided into five groups: 20 clones in Group I, 12 clones in Group II, 11 clones in Group III, 33 clones in Group IV, and 10 clones in Group V. Group V owned highest Sugarcane brix, sugarcane sugar, sugarcane juice sugar and sugarcane juice purity. The fibre fraction was the lowest in group III and the highest in group IV. Stepwise discriminant analysis gave an average probability of 91.86%. It could be concluded that ten germplasms showed very good technological characters and they were CP70-330, CP81-1405, CP94-1100, CP94-2059, KQ01-1261, Q155, Q188, Q190, Q207, Q96, all of which were early-maturing varieties. Among them, CP81-1405, Q155 and Q96 had higher sugar content (>16%) and thus they can be used as high sugar content parents.
